Three rules that prevent most problems

Rinse, never washWarm water only. Soap residue is the single most common cause of trouble after adding decor.
Check the openingsA fish should be able to leave any hole it can enter. Long-finned fish want smooth edges.
Leave swimming roomDecor along the back and sides, open water in the middle. Fish use the space you leave.
